Chinese 19th century elm and lacquer cabinet in red. Jiangxi Province.
These cabinets were a traditional wedding gift in China. Lacquer, a natural resin, has been used to create decoration for around 2000 years. The red pigment is made from cinnabar.
Cabinet is in very good condition. Some wear to the lacquer as you would expect from an antique item but it is all very sound.
