A very fine rural scene by Danish artist Niels Holbak (1884-1954). Using strong visceral brush strokes, the artist captures the scene in an effortless manner. Depth and perspective within the composition are enhanced with areas of impasto work. The scene evokes a quiet countryside afternoon with 2 local residents chatting by the roadside in low winter sunshine. 
In contemporary frame on canvas with stretchers and signed lower left N Holbak.
